Spring Valley EcoFarms is a non-profit organization focusing on education, research, and outreach to promote more ecologically sustainable agriculture. Its seat is Spring Valley Farm, 100 acres in the Georgia Piedmont. The vision is to reduce reliance on external subsidies in agricultural systems through incorporating free services of nature. The goal is to develop a model for conservation of biological diversity and to provide a laboratory where ecological science and theory are put to a real-world test.

Antoine Foucart
Specialist in locust ecology and control Antoine is an entomologist at CIRAD (the French Agricultural Research Center for International Development).The Laboratories are based in Montpellier, France. His domains are locusts and grasshoppers…
Antoine studies the ecology of invasive locust and their enemies. His research is done primarily in Europe and North Africa. Pest control and management are a central theme in his work; inter-species competition and impact on the environment are also a focus. Antoine enjoys most his field work, applied science and travels that take him from West Africa to Brazil.
His discoveries on desert locust behaviors have been captured on film and have recently been highlighted in a full-length feature movie entitled: Locust Invasion: The Insect that Ate Africa directed by Thierry Ragobert.
Hymenoptera (WASP), are also a fetish for Antoine. He collects and studies all aspects of ants notably the velvet ant (MUTILLIDAE). All insects and their role in ecosystems are relevant to him.
Antoine has been outdoors all his life and holds a diploma from l’École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris.
